about emmett
EMMETT PATTON is a music professional and songwriter with a background in performance and production.
With two undergraduate degrees, years of musical training and performance experience, and almost a decade in the professional world, Emmett has developed an unusual mix of skill sets. He combines his innate musicality, creativity and technical ability with a strong business acumen, interpersonal skills and self-awareness.
Emmett has had a passion for music since he was a child. After studying jazz piano for many years, he joined his high school choir at the age of sixteen and fell in love with singing. As an undergraduate student at Boston University, he performed with several choirs and vocal ensembles of various sizes at venues across New England, including Boston’s Symphony Hall and Fenway Park.
After graduating, Emmett moved to San Francisco and took a detour into the corporate world. He gained valuable business experience and technical skills, but eventually left Silicon Valley in 2017 to do some soul-searching. He completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training and developed a mindfulness practice, which helped to reignite his passion for music.
Emmett returned to Boston and began to write songs and perform at open mics. In 2019, he enrolled in the songwriting program at Berklee College of Music, where he also learned music production skills, performed with his band, and completed two internships in music publishing and A&R.
As a songwriter, Emmett blends neo-soul and jazz-inspired harmonies with rich vocals and expressive lyrics. He takes inspiration from legendary singers like Sam Cooke, Bill Withers, and Aretha Franklin, as well as more contemporary artists like Tom Misch and Allen Stone. Emmett’s songs offer the listener a window into his mind and heart, depicting the struggles that many of us encounter in modern life.
